Saaristomeren Melojat ry (SMM) was founded in 1992 and is a member of the Finnish Canoeing and Rowing Federation and Tähtiseura quality program.
Our club's more than 400 members enjoy kayaking through its many variations from recreational kayaking to kayak racing and rapid kayaking. We also have activities and a practise group for children. We organize plenty of kayaking trips and training events, as well as, participate in competitions. In the winter, we practise in the swimming hall. As a member of the club, a keen paddler can enjoy paddling and being together in a sport close to nature in the best and most inexpensive ways. Kayaking is suitable for everyone, regardless of age, gender or physical condition.
Almost every year we have organized a membership event in the spring or/and fall to open and close the season together.
In addition to the membership activities, we organize kayaking courses for beginners, both adults and children. We also rent kayaks to non-members. We arrange kayaking events for companies, schools and other groups.
We offer a good and safe environment to try kayaking, start a kayaking hobby and develope your skills. The kayaking center is located on the shore of Pitkäsalmi and is open from May to the end of September. The paddling center has storage facilities for the club's approximately 130 kayaks and members' own kayaks. In addition, we have changing rooms, showers and a kiosk. It's easy to go paddling from the large and low pier or the shore. The property is owned bu the city Turku.
Our activities are mainly based on volunteering and the members' own initiative. With volunteers, we are able to offer versatile activities at a reasonable price. In addition, we have hired young people for the summer season, usually the club's own juniors, and a manager to take care of the activities of our association, under which various divisions operate.
The club finances its activities mainly through membership fees, rentals of kayaks and kayak storage, course and practise fees. We inform about our activities on this website and in the membership mail sent by email. In addition, our club has its own Facebook, Instagram, blog and Tiktok.
